Sometimes I put pen to paper
but nothing wants to come out
I write now to drown out the bullets,
to distract a fluttering heart and to forget the bitter years
Allowing the pen to reveal what you
didn’t know was really inside:
all those different thoughts, ideas and emotions
sweeping through the body like a tornado
calmly and orderly arrange themselves on a page.
Losing oneself in adjectives and exclamation marks
becomes a small victory over life’s questions marks and full-stops.
But sometimes reality forces you back and sucks you dry,
you’re just holding a pen to paper
and nothing wants to come out.
